Thomas Woodward | I Wish That it Would Rain - Part 12

Trade Deadline Fever

So Jake and myself have been pretty into the NBA this season, and with good reason. Multiple story lines have emerged that are completely unique to the time period, the trade deadline has been CRAZY, and with a lockout looming certain change is on the horizon with the salary cap.

Long story short, I got the fever.

When I say story lines unique to the times I am talking about the flood of superstars to larger markets and the trend of them also teaming up. This started years ago with Boston, continued with Miami, and is happening in New York. In each scenario you likewise see a star leave a smaller market for a larger one and in almost all scenarios you see the stars leave the midwest and travel east.

With this in mind and having had admired both Denver and Cleveland in large part because of proximity, I am glad to say the Oklahoma Thunder had gained the most over the last day.

In the face of a diaspora of stars to the east coast and larger markets, the Thunder are blossoming. Probably the best part of their success is the attitude of Kevin Durant….. He’s already signed an extension. The only real hole that you could say that the Thunder had was defense down low. Kendrick Perkins and his scowl change all that. Also added before the deadline was Nazr Mohammed who still averages around 10 points a game, is big, and has 6 fouls to give every night.
I have been telling you all year Jake that the Lakers will not make the NBA Finals. All they needed to come up against was team to make Bynum and Gasol look soft that also had an established scorer. Oklahoma is now THAT TEAM.

I’ll get to my predictions tomorrow but hopefully this helps you catch up what transpired with the Thunder today. I’m going to seed both conferences and attempt to predict EVERYTHING…

SNOMG

I’ve been listening to a lot of Nick Cave during this snow storm. Here’s a good slow one.

This one is for nostalgia. Jason Williams and the Sacramento Kings were my favorite team when I was younger. To this day I can name the whole roster… I still wonder if that crooked official held them back or not, specifically in their playoff showdowns with the Lakers. Whoever gets rich first, please get me a Jason Williams throwback Kansas City Kings uniform…

Goran Dragic

Just trying to up our hits.

R.I.P. HARVEY PEKAR

At this point, what else could happen to Cleveland? Longtime graphic novel author Harvey Pekar, perhaps the world’s only true “realist”, has died. Pekar became known for the graphic novel he wrote “American Splendor,” which for a time was illustrated by the legendary R. Crumb. Pekar garnered a great deal of attention for his chronicle of his bout with lymphoma as well as his appearances on David Letterman. Pekar wrote stories based from his real and lifelong place of residence Cleveland, Ohio. He portrayed all of life to his viewers, giving them insight into what it was like to live in a midwestern city with industry, and consequently life, leaving it steadily. His loyalty to a sinking ship was admirable, his words and stories important, and life was not in vain. RIP

…they’re gone…

…shines for an instant next to seemingly infinite constants…

Explosions are fun though.

Learned how to cook a whole fucking chicken at once.

Whatever.

State Of Shock: WTF LeBron?

Wore my Cavs jersey in public to watch “The Decision.” Big Mistake.

LeBron Hates Grandmas.

I thought New York would have been interesting.

Yep, Thats me….

I watched the press conference. It was awkward. LeBron sometimes speaks republican. He says buzz words without actually saying anything. Chris Bosh was without ego and well spoken but it really seems like Dwayne Wade and LeBron may butt heads eventually.

Atleast we still have on more Worldcup  game.

And George Michael.

This Landmark from my hometown closed up. Seems fitting to mention it in the same post.

Snapshots from a time with more hope, more things possible.

Atleast a county museum bought the sign.

Nostalgia and Regret hanging out. R.I.P. White Haven R.I.P. Loyalty.

Photos from the Star, Plain Dealer, and AP.
