Four Things at Once: Physical Evidence of my ADHD

Been awhile since I did an update on myself.Partially because I’m really damn busy…. So here is a pictorial update of everything I am working on right now. The Tallgrass sign I painted live for pitch artopia, pretty fun, good people watching. The random shot of drawers is from a commission I am working on. It’s gonna take awhile and I don’t feel like explaining it all right now, but I ma learning about wood and strippers right now— not as fun as it sounds… Then I am also in a mad dash to work on getting my studio set up outside with an accompanying garden. These pics are about a week old so I can hopefully share some more recent progress later in the week…..

Nice One and the HOTBOX USA TOUR 2012!!!

The Wandering Yak

So as you well know Nice One is a friend of the program here. A little while ago he sent me an update from his national rambles that he was alright with me sharing with you. But I’m bad at computers still and lost the email. Nice was nice about it and told me not to worry about it but it would be cool if i shared his kickstarter campaign with you. And I’m doing that for sure because it presumably involves me drawing spraypaint things with him on the underpasses and on his van gallery thing that is named after a weed event that was a big part of my high school years. Here’s the thing though Jake Beeson is good at computers and he found the aforementioned email (which i accidentally deleted (my bad y’all)). so here are some pictures and a link to a very cool project that you can help support. Maybe in the future we can make a deal that i will give you a work on paper if you donate $100.
so…

Here is his correspondence from the previously lost email:
I just completed in an awesome project in Savannah Ga. with the help of Pawn Works Chicago, SCAD and Educate Alive. Read more about the project below and check out some of the amazing pictures attached.

Savannah-Chatham County School District’s Windsor Forest High School and Education Alive! have invited us to their community to run the workshop and facilitate the mural with one of our local favorites, enigmatic Chicago street artist Nice-One. This project aims to continue the ongoing conversation between the art world and the interests of the youth and to educate and involve children in arts and in the creation of murals within their daily environment, their schools.
Alongside the fabulous Ms. Sperry and her art students we created a stencil workshop where the students learned about negative and positive space while creating their own stencils that eventually became an integral part of the overall aesthetic of the mural. Each participating student’s work now lives n forever inside this fabulous piece created by Chicago’s own, Nice-One.
During our visit we will also be worked on a special after school mural project/pizza party with the students of Hubert Middle School. This mural was completed in an effort to raise awareness through the arts while spending time with the less fortunate students during the weekend and providing a fun, safe atmosphere outside the normal lines of their standard school days. Way ahead of schedule, we are so excited to finally be working with the schools and more specifically, at-risk youth within their community. Mrs. Mary Bass was our contact at Hubert Middle School where we had a blast at our pizza/mural party last Saturday.

We appreciate you taking the time to read this and look forward to hearing from you about a possible post/feature about this community arts education project. Thanks for your time.

All the photos were taken by Brock Brake.

Nice One’s new special project

Please support this if you support us.

HOTBOX USA TOUR 2012 from tara D. on Vimeo.

And so here is Nice One’s new special project. Please support this if you support us.

WHATS THIS?

HOTBOX is Chicago’s very own gallery on wheels, showcasing artwork inside and outside. We’re kicking off 2012 with a project called “The United Streets of America Tour” and we want you be a part of the adventure!

WHERE IS IT?

Were taking the HOTBOX to your city, along with 24 other US cities. At every stop artists will paint/tag/poster/doodle/sticker the outside of the truck. We want to completely cover this thing and we need your help! We will build and layer upon the truck as the tour goes on and we would love to have you come out and add to the collaboration. Everybody can peep your stuff as we drive around Chicago and parts of the country, and then we’ll carry it all the way to Miami!

WHEN is this all going down?

We just launched a Kickstarter (HOTBOX kickstarter), in hopes of utilizing the masses to make this dream a reality. If all goes well and we get the funding, The HOTBOX USA Tour will kick off July 20th in our hometown, Chicago, and end up in Art Basel Miami on December 1st, where we’ll proudly show off your work, along with the work of many, many others. *Please note these plans are temporary until the funding goal is reached!*

Mark your calendars! We’ll be in Kansas City, ready for you to add to the outside of the HOTBOX on these dates: July 21st-22nd
Don’t think you’ll be in town those dates? Check out the map! Maybe we can connect in another location along the way.

HOW can you help?

Spread the word about the HOTBOX US Tour! Find us on Facebook, or Twitter, share the kickstarter, and tell your friends about the project! We can take your Art and many, many other artist from all over the Country all the way to Miami for the 11th Annual Miami Art Basel! With your help:)

We really look forward to hearing your response or any thoughts on the project, good or bad. HB is truly about the power of collaboration and the power of art… Join us, wont you?
